This month we would like to feature one of our newest team members, Derrick Rott.
Not a “Quick Trip” to the Life of Real Estate
Derrick's journey into the realm of real estate didn't begin overnight. He’s been working for Kwik Trip for 19 years and will continue to do so as his real estate business grows. But real estate was an idea that he considered and thought about for a long time. A pivotal moment came when he had a conversation with his nephew, Bailey, who happened to be a real estate agent. It was during this conversation that Derrick got a glimpse into what his future could hold.
Taking inspiration from Bailey's experience, Derrick decided to embark on this new path. He enrolled in an online real estate course. However, he soon realized that the road ahead wasn't going to be a cakewalk. "Sounded easy enough so I enrolled in the online course. Wow! Things are never what they seem from the outside, the course was very thorough and much more difficult than I expected," he admits. It was a valuable lesson in understanding that the real estate business is not just about transactions; it's about guiding people through one of the most important decisions of their lives.
Finding a Home at Compass
Derrick's journey took a significant turn when he joined our Compass team. With his characteristic honesty, he says, "I was fortunate to fall in with an exceptional real estate group in Compass, and we're off and rolling." A New Role
What Derrick enjoys most about his role at Compass is the constant learning and growth. He has worked for Kwik Trip for almost two decades, so it’s been a long time since he has been in a job where he’s learning. "It is something entirely new for me and I learn more every day. That has been the best part of becoming a real estate agent so far," he shares. Being the "new guy" in a company has humbled him and allowed him to tap into the joy of acquiring new knowledge.
Help From Leadership and Other Agents
The transition into a new profession is never without its challenges. Derrick recognizes that the most significant challenge for him is the high standards he sets for himself. He says that being part of Compass Realty Group has been his pillar of strength. "Being the new guy I'm leaning on others certainly more than I'm used to, and the support has been there every time," he acknowledges gratefully.
Family Guy
Beyond the world of real estate, Derrick is heavily invested in his family and hobbies. He's married to Brittani, his compassionate and supportive wife who has been instrumental in helping him pursue his real estate dream. Together, they have two of the most caring and sweet boys, with a dash of precociousness, Pierce and Parker. Residing near Glenwood City, the family enjoys a diverse range of activities, from football and baseball to camping, hunting, fishing, and movie nights.
